"You've been on the volunteer strength of the 51st Yeomanry since, er, 1895..."

"You've been on the volunteer strength of the 51st Yeomanry since, er, 1895..."

Every now and then we'll make the odd confession during these blog entries, so here's the one for Episode 15. The 'Adam Adamant Lives!' (always remember to pronounce the exclamation mark) article that closes the edition is actually the second take for somewhat embarrassing reasons.

The first attempt at it was pretty faffy and we kept on confusing director Moira Armstrong with Scottish singer Moira Anderson. Overall, although not exactly a disastrous piece, it did worry us enough to have another go at it. It is, of course, entirely coincidental that we'd just come back from the pub...

This sort of lax behaviour would, of course, have appalled Mr Adamant. But then we we'd managed to do an article on 'Mind Your Language' under similar circumstances. There's probably an interesting research project there, investigating how one's ability to burble about old TV varies with increasing alcoholic intake. We'd suggest starting at the bar on a Saturday night at your nearest convention...

But that's probably enough photos of us with drinks and DVDs for one day...

We also faced a small problem in that for this issue there was nothing much in the way of BBC continuity announcements that we could use. So, the wonderful I.T. Williams stepped in to provide some suitable sounding voiceovers instead.

The episode we chose to represent the series was one we'd not actually seen before, despite having the discs for ages. Broadcast on Thurday 13th October 1966 it features a brief appearance by none other than Patrick Troughton (our fake continuity at the end of the article could hardly fail to make reference to his forthcoming role!) doing some oddly recognisable throat-clearing but with an unusually severe haircut.

A brief look down that cast list provides a number of well-known names such as Iain Cuthbertson, Michael Ripper and Michael Sheard.

As this story requires a large number of soldiers, a good drinking game (we're back to the booze again!) could be devised for every time you spot a familiar face in the background. Hello there to Bryan Mosley, Terry Walsh, Derek Martin... And there are others - see if you can catch 'em all!

We also got excited when we spotted some familiar bits of set design in the form of the missile status indicator board from 'Doctor Who: The Invasion'. Yes, we are easily amused!

Oh, and Lisa gave us her Georgina Jones impression in the end sketch. To simulate her running after Mr Adamant she had to flap up and down in the kitchen in her slippers.

Which is a strange place to keep a kitchen, I suppose...
