Space Fall

Space Fall

With 2nd January being a Bank Holiday, it's only with its second episode ('Space Fall' : 9th January 1978) that 'Blake's 7' settles down into a more familiar post 7pm timeslot.

Before, you could see the Buswells and the Pollicks battling against each other in 'Ask The Fanily' and Daniel Pollick has even uploaded this edition to YouTube, so it can be seen here.

Leslie Schofield is memorable as the unpleasant Raiker, but you can also spot Tarot from 'Ace Of Wands' with a beard who has a clipboard with mysterious surreal symbols on it for no adequately explained reason. It's not clear why there's a door with the word 'HEADS' on it, unless Worzel Gummidge was once a member of the crew.

After meeting Jenna and Vila last week, we now get introduced to Avon and Gan, plus a huge alien ship that won't get named until next time.

Our first sight of this mysterious vessel is still impressive and Dudley Simpson helps to make it a special moment in the episode, that makes up for the over-familiar bits of set dressing salvaged from back of the 'Doctor Who' cupboard.

'The Way Back' is a hard act to follow and although confining most of the story to the London means that things are a bit slower this time around, 'Space Fall' does a good enough job of building on the foundations that have been laid.

And we still haven't got to Cygnus Alpha yet, so we've still got that to look forward to.

Our video on 'Space Fall' can be seen here.
