The Godiva Affair

The Godiva Affair

In typical 'Round The Archives' fashion, a chat about 'Dad's Army - The Godiva Affair' can also be a thinly-disguised excuse to wear a silly hat and blow a very long raspberry when doing an impression of 'Speed Buggy'.

But those who know our ways, night be amused to note that YouTube describes my flatulent noises as 'Music' which seems overly-generous to me.

Friday night videos have to be recorded after 9pm so I wanted to do something we were familiar with, and as I'd had a look at the script for yesterday's blog post, this was a fairly easy choice.

My sun hat was bought many years ago at the Wimborne Folk Festival, where you can meet more Morris Dancers than you can shake a Whiffling Stick at. Sadly, I don't get to wear it as often as I used to, as it once emerged from the washing machine noticeably smaller than when it went in. Or maybe my head has got bigger over the years?

This is the one with the use of the word 'fleshings', of course, and I like the way Pike just mouths the word in the background of the final scene, proving that it's preying on his mind.

Frazer's candlestick telephone is a nice detail, and although Talfryn Thomas doesn't get much to do this week, he is very appreciative of Mrs Fox's attributes when on the phone to Pike.

Wilson is instantly at home with the ladies in their swimming costumes and they seem quite keen on his company in return. Poor old Pike is led away before he can follow in his Uncle's footsteps, sadly.

There's some lovely character stuff in this one, and Mrs Fox's proposed schedule for the attentions of Mainwaring, Jones and the Town Clerk is even busier than out weekly output of videos! But at least she would get Thursdays off...
