Cagney & Lacey

Cagney & Lacey

We've had a jolly afternoon with young Warren and as a break from all our activity on the 'Doctor Who' front, Lisa treated us to a look at the pilot episode of 'Cagney & Lacey'.

It's not a show that I'm very familiar with, but Warren & Lisa have seen a decent amount and it was the '5 USA' channel today.

But what Lisa had tracked down was a Spanish DVD of the very first episodes, Although Tyne Daly plays Lacey all the way through the series, Cagney changes her face twice, beginning as Loretta Swit in the pilot, changing to Meg Foster for the first season, then finally becoming Sharon Gless for the remaining seasons.

The pilot episode is a real mixed bag of styles and we do intend to study it in fuller detail in 'Round The Archives' at some point, but we certainly enjoyed watching it and were keen to upload a short reaction video which can be seen here.

Having spent some time looking at 'The Gentle Touch' and 'Juliet Bravo' in recent weeks, it's interesting to see how this series works and the subject matter it tackles. Warren always has a good idea for practical detail in police shows, of course, although the sudden gear-changes in style on show here were a bit of a surprise for all of us.

I won't bang on too much tonight, as it's getting late, but the earliest we can cover this is Episode 26 (September). And this is simply because Episodes 24 and 25 are both fully booked up with material. In fact, the last few days have seen our e-mail pinging with exciting stuff from various lovely people. But let's not spoil everything in advance...

As always, stay tuned and here's to the future!
